Your Strategy Lab: The Research Tool Explained
The 'Research' tab is where the magic happens! It's a unique and powerful graphical analysis engine that lets you build and refine your own betting systems based on vast amounts of historical performance data.
Forget guesswork – Hedger Pro shows you profitability visually through intuitive bar charts, line charts, and tables. This isn't just raw data; it's data brought to life to show you profitable trends.
How to Interpret the Charts for Profitability: As you interact with filters, keep a close eye on the charts. Look for:
- Upward trends in line charts (especially the overall Profit & Loss).
- Consistently profitable green bars in bar charts. These instantly highlight where a particular filter (like a specific odds range or a certain race class) has historically been profitable.
- It's incredibly intuitive: you can click on bars or drag ranges directly in the charts to select your desired criteria.
Important Note on Chart Data & Robustness: Profits displayed in these filter charts are shown before commission.
The historical data period these charts display (e.g., up to 6 months ago by default) is actually determined by the 'Anti Back Fit' range you set for your system.
This crucial feature helps prevent 'over-fitting' strategies to very recent, potentially circumstantial, data, ensuring your systems are more robust and reliable for the future.
Getting Started with Your First Custom System
Ready to create a system tailored to your own insights? Here’s how simple it is:
- Go to the 'Research' tab in Hedger Pro. You'll see your 'System List' on the left side of the screen.
- Click the 'NEW' button.
- Give your new system a unique and memorable name (e.g., 'My Favourite Backing Strategy' or 'Lay Short Prices').
- Now, click the 'Filters Editor' icon (it will turn red when open). This will reveal a huge array of filters you can use! Explore categories like:
- Race characteristics (e.g., Class, Distance, Surface Type)
- Runner attributes (e.g., Age, Draw, Days Since Last Ran)
- Performance Stats (e.g., Jockey SR, Trainer ROI, Horse A/E)
- Prices (e.g., Odds, Volume, Predicted Price)
- And even Last Time Out (LTO) data!
Don't be overwhelmed by the options! Start by experimenting with just one or two filters. For Ranges (like Odds), drag the sliders or input min/max values. For Selects (like Race Type), simply click on the bars in the chart or check boxes in the table.
The Golden Rule: Don't Forget to SAVE!
After you've selected your filters and identified some promising trends in the charts, it's absolutely vital to 'SAVE' your system. This action solidifies your strategy and immediately generates its corresponding shortlist of runners in the 'Cards' tab! Don't lose your hard work by forgetting this crucial step.
