General

Q: What is Hedger Pro? A: Hedger Pro is an advanced race card and research platform for UK and Irish horse racing. It helps you find, test, and run back, lay, and hedge strategies with live cards, graphical research, portfolio analysis, and in-app betting.

Q: How do I get started? A: Open a free account, choose a membership, connect Betfair on the Account page, then open the Pro App at hedgerpro.co.uk/cards/.

Q: What makes Hedger Pro different? A: Performance stats on horses, jockeys, and trainers; a unique graphical research tool; project-based system building with live qualifiers on the race card; portfolio P&L across projects; in-app bet placement and scheduling; and optional auto betting from Portfolio.

Q: Can I place bets through Hedger Pro? A: Yes. Use the betting slip on Cards, schedule bets before the off, and enable auto betting for set-and-forget execution when your membership tier allows it.

Q: How often is data updated? A: Race cards and market data refresh in real time during the day. Performance statistics for horses, jockeys, and trainers are updated on a rolling basis (see column period pickers on Cards and filter blocks in Research).

Research & projects

Q: What is the Research tool? A: The RESEARCH tab lets you build and analyse betting systems with graphical P&L on filters – odds bands, draw, going, jockey stats, LTO form, and more. Save winning angles as projects containing multiple systems. See Research.

Q: How do I create a system? A: Open Research, pick or create a project, add systems, set filters from the left panel, run RESEARCH, then SAVE when you are happy. Qualifiers appear on Cards for ticked projects.

Q: What is anti back-fit? A: Filter charts and the system P&L can withhold recent months so you validate on data the system was not tuned on – reducing over-fitting. See Filter charts and P&L & stats.

Q: Can I export systems to other software? A: Yes. Use Project management → Export for formats compatible with Bet Angel, Betfair Bot Manager, and other tools.

Q: How many systems can I run? A: Membership limits apply to projects and systems. Your tier is shown on the Account → Membership page.

Cards & qualifiers

Q: How do qualifiers get onto the race card? A: Tick saved projects in the left panel on CARDS. Runners matching those systems show qualifier counts per race and in the PROJECTS column. See Qualifiers.

Q: What is Combined vs Separated shortlist layout? A: When viewing a project shortlist, Combined merges qualifiers into one table; Separated groups by race. See Shortlist view.

Q: Can I customise the runner table? A: Yes. Use the layout editor and Card settings to show or hide columns, stats periods, and prices.

Portfolio & auto betting

Q: What is the Portfolio tab for? A: Combine multiple projects with different stakes and see overall P&L, charts, and analysis. See Portfolio.

Q: How does auto betting work? A: From Portfolio you can enable automated placement for qualifying runners according to project rules and your Betfair connection. See Auto betting. Requires an active Betfair link and appropriate membership.

Following

Q: What is Following? A: FOLLOWING lets members subscribe to published groups from other users and view or copy group bets. See Following.

Q: How do I publish my own group? A: Use Project management → Published to share a project group when your membership allows publishing.

Project management

Q: Where is project management in 2.0? A: Unlike 1.6 inline flows, 2.0 uses the MANAGEMENT dialog from Research (and related entry points) for create, copy, combine, export, restore, and publish. See Project management.

Q: Can I restore a backup? A: Yes – Restore imports a previously exported project file.

Stats Reports vs Research

Q: When should I use Stats Reports instead of Research? A: Research builds and tests betting systems with filters and P&L. Stats Reports (/reports/) is for deep entity analysis – horses, jockeys, trainers – with profiles, charts, and history outside the Pro App tabs. Use both: Research for systems, Stats Reports for entity form.

Account & connections

Q: How do I connect Betfair? A: Sign in, open Account, and complete Betfair authorisation. Hedger Pro is an authorised Betfair application. See Betfair connection.

Q: What is the Agent API key? A: Advanced members can generate a key for programmatic access to status and bets endpoints. See Agent API key.

Upgrading from 1.6

Q: I used Version 1.6 – what changed? A: See Migrating to 2.0 for URL changes, removed features, and where old workflows moved (e.g. project management dialog, Following tab).
